The E.B. Greene was a Lake Bulk Freighter sailing for the Cleveland-Cliffs Steamship Company and hauled taconite ore pellets from the Marquette, Michigan, to the steel refineries in Detroit.
The Edward B. Greene was christened January 10, 1952, built by the American Ship Building Company, Toledo, Ohio, the first vessel in the history of the Great Lakes to be built completely in dry-dock. At 647-feet in length her original capacity was 20,000 tons. An additional 120 feet was added in 1976 making a total length of 767 feet overall and increasing her tonnage to 25,900 tons. She was renamed the Benson Ford in 1981 and then the Kaye E Barker in 1989. She plies the Great Lakes yet today hauling ore, stone and coal.
Technique: Painted using a renaissance technique – multiple layers of complementary hues providing transparency, depth and a rich tones.
